Declaring that the Hebrew University “has great #### potentialities as a factor in the peaceful development of Palestine and of the Middle East,” President Harry S. Truman said today that the institution “is a werthy embodiment of the striving of a people towards self-expression in the #### sciense and scholarship.”

President Truman’s message, along with those of Governor Themas E, Deway, Professor Albert Einstein, and a member of American educational leaders, were read tonight at a public reception for the visiting members of the board of governors of the Hebrew University given by the American Friends of the Hebrew University.

Professor Einstein, paying tribute to the prestige and growth of the university, expressed the hope that it will “be able to achieve the financial backing which corresponds to its significance in the scientific and educational field.” Of the new University-Hadassah Medical School, for which $4,000,000 is being raised in the United States, Professor Einsteim said: “The building of the Hebrew University Medical School is without question a real necessity for our community in Palestine. It will also be of great help to many of our young people in other countries where the study of medicine for them is either impossible or made difficult.”

Dr. Selig Brodetsky, deputy chairman of the board of governors, making the first public report on the twenty-second annual meeting of the board which has just concluded, said that it had taken the following actions:

The 1946-1947 budget of the Hebrew University was set at $1,750,000. The next meeting of the board will be held in Jerusalem in the Spring of 1948. Dr.Chaim Weizmann was realected chairman of the board; Professor Brodetsky, deputy ##; Dr. Judah L. Magnee, president of the University; and Sir Leon Simon, chairman of the executive council. Three new members, all Palestinians, were ## to the board; Abrakam Granovsky, executive director of the Jewish National ## in Jerusalem; Moses Green, retired English engineer; and Dr. Moses Smora, well-known Palestinian attorney.

It was decided to establish as soon as possible a Department of Kygian in the new University-Hadassah Medical School. Announcement was made that the French Government has taken steps to implement its intention to expand the department of French and French civilization. It was agreed in principle that a new system of study be inaugurated leading to a newly established degree of Bechalor of Arts for three years of study of non-specialized character.
