An appeal to President Roosevelt “to continue with the sacred program of rescue and to increase efforts to save those who can still be saved,” will be made tomorrow at the opening session of the three-day convention of the American Federation of Polish Jews, which is being attended by 400 delegates from all parts of the United States and Canada. The meeting, held at the Hotel Pennsylvania here, will formulate demands in connection with the post-war rehabilitation of Polish Jewry.
The text of the appeal, made public today, also urges President Roosevelt “to prepare more havens of safety for those who can manage to escape from the Nazi claws and to demand the removal of the ban against unrestricted immigration of Jews into Palestine.”
A message to the surviving Jews in Poland calls for courage and preparation for the day of liberation. “We pledge you that we shall not rest until a life of freedom, security and happiness shall become a reality in a new Poland whose constitution shall guarantee to you full national rights, freedom from anti-Semitism and the full flowering of your own creative life,” the message says.
