The Jewish population of Copenhagen has been ordered to contribute 100,000 kronen (approximately $20,000) to the 500,000 kronen fine which has been levied on the Danish capital in reprisal for the assassination of a German corporal, it is reported here by refugees who succeeded in evading the Nazis and reaching Sweden.
They state that the German military authorities have arrested Jews in the cities of Odense, Aalborg, Helsingor and Svendborg, and are continuing to round up Jews in Copenhagen. The Nazis have, at the same time, published a list of sixteen Copenhagen Jews whose property they ordered confiscated on charges that they had engaged in sabotage against the Germans.
The pro-Nazi Danish press, meanwhile, continues to clamor for the deportation of all Jews from the country and for the confiscation of all their property. It asks that debts owed to Jews be declared invalid and that Jews be prohibited from instituting legal proceedings against non-Jews. In line with these demands, the Germans have ordered the confiscation of all radios and cameras belonging to Jews, the refugees arriving here report.
