Eleven Tel Aviv policemen are being held on suspicion of participation in several recent burglaries. Among the detainees is Inspector Albert Alkert, the special chief sapper in the Tel Aviv police. Police suspect that some of the policemen were actively involved in a burglary of a jewelry store in which IL 1 million in jewelry was stolen. Six of the suspects were dismissed from the police force after they confessed. Another five were suspended, among them Alkert. Interior Minister Yosef Burg praised Inspector General Haim Tavori for the fast and decisive action in the affair.
