The cornerstone for a student house named in honor of Mendel Fisher, for 25 years executive director of the Jewish National Fund of America, was laid today at the Ein Hod Artists colony near Haifa.
Mr. Fisher, who retired from that post but continued as a consultant to the JNF, was among those witnessing the ceremony. The gathering included Jewish Agency officials, JNF leaders, Haifa municipality officials, a 60-member B’nai Zion delegation headed by Harris and Norman Levine, and George P. Henry, the United States cultural attache in Israel.
The Mendel Fisher Student House will supplement the School of Ceramics founded four years ago in memory of Mr. Fisher’s late wife, Minnett Fisher. Funds for the student house were raised at a New York testimonial dinner for Mr. Fisher. The facility will be mainly for needy students, and will be part of the Ein Hod Academy of Fine Arts.
