The cornerstone of the first of the new Hebrew University buildings to be erected on the University’s 125-acre site next to the government center here was laid today at an impressive ceremony attended by President Ben Zvi, members of the Cabinet, University leaders and Dr. George Wise, president of the American Friends of the University and chairman of the University’s Board of Governors. The buildings are expected to cost $30,000,000.
It was revealed at the ceremony that the first building to be erected on the site would be a student dormitory, to be followed by the Eliezer Kaplan School of Economics. The University library, which will become the National Library of Israel, will be built after that. At present the volumes are scattered among many buildings.
