The American Jewish Committee has been asked by Costa Rican President Teodoro Picado to assist in an investigation of the financial backers and the directors of the anti-Semitic campaign in his country, according to a cable from Maximo G. Yagusky, representative of the Committee, which was released by the organization’s local office today.
President Picado, who received Yagupsky at a formal audience, condemned the recant anti-Jewish outbreaks in Costa Rica and authorized the American Jewish Committee to publish a statement declaring that he considers the attacks “contrary to the spirit of the Costa Rican nation” and that he has pledged to “pursue the agitators by law.”
