Costa Rica’s main synagogue did not send a representative to the funeral of former Archbishop Roman Arieta. Arieta, who died Tuesday from a brain tumor at 80, antagonized local Jews when he led the Roman Catholic Church in this predominantly Catholic nation by coming to the aid of alleged Nazi collaborator Bohdan Koziy and playing a key role in blocking a 1988 extradition request for him from the Soviet Union.
