A new court action has forced the City of Philadelphia to postpone enforcement of the Sunday closing law, recently affirmed by the State Supreme Court, it was announced today by City Solicitor David Berger.
The action was filed by “Bargain City, U.S.A.,” which maintains that the law should not be enforced. Under an order by Chief Justice John C. Bell, of the Supreme Court, a former edict by a lower court, banning the Sunday closing law enforcement, “remains in full force and effect.” Mr. Berger said he will ask the State Supreme Court to reject the new petition.
