The suit brought by four butchers here to restrain the St. Louis orthodox city board from boycotting slaughterers and butchers not affiliated with the official organization responsible for kashruth control here was thrown out of court today when the board’s demurrers were sustained.
The action was recently brought by Abraham Spasser who asked for an injunction and $25,000 in damages. Simultaneously with the decision of the court, Louis Goodman, president of the board, announced that Rabbi Jacob J. Grodsky had been expelled from the organization for blocking efforts to supervise kashruth. Rabbi Grodsky was said to have accepted a fourth of a cent for every pound of kosher meat sold by two local packing houses while receiving a salary from the orthodox board.
Rabbi Grodsky was suspended last January pending a further investigation but he defied the board and brought in a scab slaughterer. Benjamin Rosenfeld, a former member of the board, and Abraham Bernstein, a Chicago ritual slaughterer, were associated with Grodsky. Twenty-one congregations and fifty delegates took part in ousting Grodsky.
