The planned introduction of a bill by the Yugoslav Education Minister limiting Jews’ attendance in high schools to their proportion in the population has caused a “latent Cabinet crisis,” the German wireless reported from Belgrade today.
The bill is supported by right-wing members of the Government, while Croatian ministers and ministers without portfolio, who are controlled by the Premier, are opposed, the broadcast said. Premier Cvetkovich was said to be avoiding taking sides but trying to bring about a compromise in order to avoid an open Cabinet crisis.
Education Minister Korosec is determined to make his bill a Cabinet issue, which means that if it is defeated in the Cabinet he will resign, thus bringing about the overthrow of the Cabinet, the German report said.
