The American ORT Federation today presented the United States Army with a citation for “distinguished services” in the rehabilitation of thousands of Jewish victims of Nazism in Europe.
The citation, which thanks “every member of the armed forces,” was presented at a ceremony at the International CRT Exhibit here to Col. Frank J. Pearson, Deputy Chief of Staff of the First Army, who accepted it in behalf of the Army.Following the ceremony, which was witnessed by 500 persons, the citation was sent to General Gar Bradley, Army Chief of Staff. Later, it will be placed permanently in the archives of the Army.
M. Maldwin Fertig, member of the CRT executive board, who made the presentation, declared that “every member of the American Jewish community is grateful to our Army for its assistance in reconstructing the Jewish survivors of Hitlerism.It symbolized the American tradition of lending a helpful hand to the persecuted and downtrodden of the world.”
