The killing of a former Jewish legionnaire, Joseph Benjamini, by Bedouins in Wadi Hawareth, Palestine, on February 22nd, was raised in the House of Commons yesterday by Colonel Josiah Wedgwood.
Benjamini, according to the reports, was killed following a clash with Bedouins who attacked the settlement of the former Legionnaires in Wadi Hawareth.
A contradictory version of the incident, however, was offered yesterday by the Colonial Secretary, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister. The Colonial Secretary denied that the Bedouins had attacked the colony, declaring that a misunderstanding arose when Arabs accompanied by a British officer had to pass through the colony on their way to another plot of land.
The High Commissioner’s observations on the incident have not yet been received, he declared.
