Customers’ Use of Yiddish Closes Shops in Rumanian Town

The Archbishop of Bukowina, receiving a rabbinical delegation headed by Chief Rabbi Jacob Mark, promised today to suggest to the authorities withdrawal of the order compelling the Jews to violate the Sabbath by keeping their shops open on Saturday. Meanwhile, the authorities in Campolung closed several Jewish shops because customers violated the order forbidding the speaking of Yiddish. The owners were ordered to display in their windows posters saying: “This shop is closed for five days for using Yiddish.
