A large number of Cuzist anti-Semites were injured last night, when they attempted a mass attack on the Jewish quarter, in Botosani in the province of Bessarabia.
The attackers, followers of the notorious Rumanian anti-Semite, Professor Alexander Cuza, head of an anti-Semitic political coalition, held a mass meeting in the town which was attended by 2,000 peasants from the neighborhood. Speakers at the meeting told the peasants that they were being robbed by the Jews and urged them to seize and confiscate Jewish property.
When the meeting broke up, the peasants, led by the Cuzist member of parliament, Nikki Forobu, marched to the Jewish district with the announced purpose of sacking it.
A heavy cordon of gendarmes immediately surrounded the Jewish district and the Cuzists were prohibited from entering. Repeated commands to disperse were fruitless and when the anti-Semitic band attacked the gendarmes, they were beaten back.
A number of them were injured in the bloody fighting which followed.
