Jewish leaders here are aroused at the new threat that several thousand Sub-Carpathian Jews will be deported to Soviet territory as a result of action by the Czechoslovak Ministry of Interior on their applications for Czech citizenship.
The applications, which have been pending for several months, are finally being dealt with. More than 1,000 of them have already been rejected. As a result, several Jews were brought to Prague today to be handed over to the Soviet repatriation commission for transportation to Russian territory.
The Council of Jewish Communities in Bohemia-Moravia today intervened with Minister of Interior Vaclov Nosek on behalf of 2,000 Sub-Carpathian Jews who have chosen to remain Czechoslovak citizens. All of these are threatened with deportation.
