An investigating commission of the Czech Provisional Committee has discovered in Reisenheim, in Sazony, six mass graves containing the bodies of 543 victims of a “death march” from Buchenwald to Theresienstadt, the Prague radio said today.
Of 2,000 priscners who started the march, only 900 arrived in Theresienstadt, the commission learned. It says that many more mass graves line the roads from Buchenwald to the Czech fortress ghetto.
The transfer of Jews from Buchenwald and other camps to Theresienstadt began shortly before Germany’s capitulation, when Allied troops neared the aroas in which the camps were located.
