Donald B. Hurwitz, executive director of the Combined Jewish Appeal and Federation of Jewish Community Services in Montreal, Canada, was named today executive director of Philadelphia’s Allied Jewish Appeal and the Federation of Jewish Charities.
He succeeds Ephraim R. Gomberg, who resigned recently as head of the Allied Appeal, and Miss Frances N. Harrison, whose retirement as executive director of the Federation of Jewish Charities was announced last month. He becomes the first official to hold the combined post since Dr. Kurt Peiser, who left Philadelphia in 1949 to accept a post as executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania.
