A group of Americans, including 30 former inmates of the Dachau concentration camp, have formed a committee here to help raise funds for a $300,000 memorial to be built on the site of the concentration camp within the next two years.

The American Committee for Dachau, headed by Werner J. Cahnman, associate professor of sociology at Rutgers University, will join with other similar groups abroad, including the Comite Internationale de Dachau, in Brussels, to finance the project. About one-quarter of the funds required have already been raised, the committee stated today.

(At Munich, today, the Bavarian Finance Ministry, which holds jurisdiction over the former Dachau camp, announced it has ordered the clearance from the site of squatters who have built shacks for their homes there. There have been many protests in Germany and abroad against such occupancy of the camp site. The Ministry announced also that it expects, soon, to demolish the former camp’s crematorium, located near Dachau.)
