When the Prince of Wales was here the aristocratic “400” were displeased at the fact that the general public had too easy an access to him and the entire affair was not sufficiently “exclusive savs Mr. S. Yudson in the “Jewish Morning Journal” of Dec. 10, but now that the “future Czarina Grand Duchess Cyril, is here the “400” are quite happy.
“The ‘future Czarina’ of Russia, the wife of Prince Cyril, who declares that he holds a first mortgage on the fallen Russian throne, maybe has no future as a princess and may have to spend the rest of her life as an ordinary person”, say Mr. Yudson, “but the American money-prince consider her worthy of their deepest homage and they are now making over her a fuss such as the could not make over the Prince of Wales.
“It is remarkable how the otherwise proud ladies of Fifth Avenue and the Monday Opera Club fawned upon and humbled themselves before the wife of the pretender to the wretched Russian throne. Evidently it is no triflle – a ‘future Czarina’!”
SEES NO IMPROVEMENT
The final draft of the Mandates Commission’s report on Palestine shows no improvement of change of attitude towards the Jews, asserts the Day in an editorial of Dec. 8.
“Particularly unsatisfactory,” says the Day, “is that part of the report which touches on the question of immigration. The report states that the present Jewish immigrants are not suited for the needs of Palestine. The heroic sacrifices of the Chalutzim, the self-sacrificing labors of those who are building up the land, are completely ignored, and, instead of making Jewish immigration into Palestine easier, the report recommend more stringent restrictions.
“The report of the Mandates Commission is very unfavorable to the Jews and if the League of Nations should act on the basis of this report it may prove detrimental to Jewish interests.”
THE PROBLEM OF OUR YOUTH
The present drive of the Young Judaea organization for funds to continue its work of bringing the Jewish youth of this country closer to Zionism gives occasion for an article from the pen of Mr. I. L. Dalidanski, in a recent issue of the “Jewish Daily News”, wherein he declares that our Jewish youth is going away from us to serve strange culture and gods because we do not know how to keep them in our fold.
“It is all well and good” says Mr. Dalidanski, “to have drives for funds. But money is not all. We must offer our youth an ideal that will inspire them. If we continue to talk about money and forget the ideals our youth will remain strangers to us.”
