Denmark’s Jewish population has presented King Christian X with 100,000 kroner (about $45,000) as a gift in honor of his twenty-fifth jubilee as the Danish monarch, it was officially announced today.
The money, it was stated, is to be used to create a model farm to demonstrate to Danish farmers the most modern methods of transforming fallow land into thriving farms.
Special services were held Saturday in the Copenhagen Synagogue to mark the jubilee, with the country’s most prominent Jews attending.
In his jubilee sermon, Chief Rabbi Friediger emphasized the freedom of religious conscience enjoyed by the citizens of Denmark. He also recalled the visit King Christian paid to the synagogue in 1933 on the occasion of its centenary celebration.
