The daughter of Baron Constantin von Neureth, former Nazi Foreign Minister and Hitler’s “Protector” for Bohamia and Moravia, has appealed to Premier Josef Stalin of Russia asking his consent to the release of her father from Spandau Prison in Berlin, it was reported here today.
Von Neurath is serving a 15-year term following his conviction by the Nuremberg Tribunal for war crimes. During the trial he admitted responsibility for a plan to destroy the Czechoslovak nation by the systematic elimination of its educated class. He also told the court that he believed the persecution of the Jews by the Nazi regime had been necessary. During his regime in Czechoslovakia, von Neurath once refused to sign anti-Jewish legislation for the Protectorate because he believed the draft submitted for his signature was too lenient.
