David Dunkelman, known as the Henry Ford of tailoring, has died here at the age of 98. He was the founder of Tip Top Tailors which introduced mass made-to-order men’s clothing. Born in Poland, he came to the United States at the age of two and attended school in Brooklyn. At the age of 22 he moved to Canada and entered the men’s clothing industry where, in addition to manufacturing clothing, he also provided uniforms for hospital workers, prison guards and policemen. He had retail outlets throughout Canada. Dunkelman was active in Toronto’s Jewish community and the Zionist movement and was involved in philanthropic work.
