The Davidson Library of Judaice, 7,500 volumes of medieval Hebrew literature, was presented last night to the City College library by Mrs. Israel Davidson, widow of Dr. Israel Davidson, an alumnus of the college and former Professor of Hebrew Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
The collection, reputed to be the largest of its kind in the world, was gathered by Professor Davidson over forty years at an expense of $20,000. It is the largest single gift ever presented to the college library and will be housed in two rooms in the college tower. Scholars from all parts of the world are expected to use it for research purposes. President Harry N. Wright accepted the gift on behalf of the college. Dr. Louis Finkelstein, President of the Jewish Theological Seminary, delivered an address on the “Role of Scholarship in the Modern World.”
