While Henry O. Spier, director of the DAWA Christmas bazar in Yorkville Casino, 210 East Eighty-sixth street, was claiming sensational success for the anti-Jewish boycott exhibit, a Jewish Daily Bulletin reporter who visited the display yesterday was unable to find evidence that merchants who are showing their wares there are making their expenses.
“Plenty of people come in to look around,” the operator of one of the stalls complained, “but very few of them buy. Maybe we get a little advertising out of it, but what we need now is business, and that doesn’t come.”
Sausages, vacuum cleaners, postcards, inexpensive little trinkets—these and various other items were on sale at the rather shabby little exhibit which many feel represents the dying gasp of the DAWA organization.
