Defense Minister Moshe Dayan said today he does not believe there are chances for renewed hostilities before the beginning of 1973. He said that he does not believe the Soviet Union would permit such an adventure before the Presidential elections in the US.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Feinberg School of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Dayan revealed that 82 percent of the defense budget for next year would be devoted to strengthening Israel’s airforce and armor corps.

The task of Israel, he said, was to build an army that would be good and efficient for the mid-1930’s. It should be ready to enter battle within a short time and win the battle within hours, Dayan said. Another task of the army, he noted, is to hold the lines in expenses so as to ease the burden on the national budget.
