New regulations setting up a requirement that boys and girls in this city, who are candidates for Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah, must receive at least five years of approved Jewish education have been adopted here by the Jewish Community Council.
The Council’s board of directors adopted the regulations after they had been approved by the Bureau of Jewish Education here, by all religious schools and synagogues in this city, and by the Dayton Hebrew Institute. All pledged to abide by the new rules.
The rules apply only to candidates for Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah who are to receive certification on a Sabbath or a Jewish holiday. Other boys and girls may be called up for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah on certain weekdays, but will not be eligible for certification.
