The Colonial Office is not yet in a position to make a statement with regared to the concession to exploit the salts of the Dead Sea, Col. Leopold H. Amery declared in Commons in reply to questions which were again reised.

The Colonial Office is still in correspondence with the High Commissioner of Palestine on the subject, he stated. Naturally, it would be desirable to give preference to British capital, but under the terms of the mandate direct preference is precluded, he stated.

One applicant has been considered as having made the best tender, but discussion was still going on as to whether the applicant is in a satisfactory positon to carry out the terms under the tender. If it is decided that this applicant is not in a sufficiently satisfactory position with regard to this, the matter will come up again, the colonial Secretary stated.
