Interpretation of the Dead Sea Scrolls was moved up a notch here this week-end with the announcement here that a complete index of the major portion of the ancient manuscript has been indexed with the aid of an IBM electronic computer.
Since the 2,000 year old document has deteriorated and many words are left only in part, with phrases, sentences and larger portions missing, the nearly 30,000 words found in the parchment were indexed by use of the computer. With these references ready, scholars will be able to check the use of fragments, words or portions of words against every possible interpretation.
