Word has reached the Friends of the Soviet Union here of the death of Erich Baron, former editor of the German magazine, Sowjet Russland Heute, the official organ of the German section of the Friends of the Soviet Union. Baron had been incarcerated in a Nazi prison camp since the beginning of the Hitler regime.
At the advent of the Third Reich, the magazine was suppressed and the whole organization was declared illegal. Leading members of the organization were herded into concentration camps, where they languished many months.
Dr. Ernest Stoecker, international secretary of the Friends of the Soviet Union, was among those imprisoned. Because of the recent disturbances, his life is despaired of by the American section of the F. S. U.
To protest the rumored death of Erich Baron and to demand the freedom of Dr. Stoecker, the F. S. U. will hold a demonstration in front of the German Consulate, 17 Battery place, at 11 a. m. Saturday, July 28.
