The conviction that anti-Semitism will decline in England was voiced here today at the Commonwealth conference of Jewish organizations by Dr. Abraham Cohen, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
Opening a discussion of anti-Semitism and fascism, Dr. Cohen declared: “I believe that with the progress of the state of Israel and the establishment of a permanent peace in the Middle East friendly relations between Britain and Israel will be placed on a strong foundation. This will blunt the weapon which in past years has been wielded against the Jewish community by malicious agitators.
“The ideals of Israel and the British Commonwealth are ethically identical and their triumph will promote the cause of democracy and civilization,” he condinued. “In that sane and healthy atmosphere anti-Semitism will wither and decay.”
Dr. Cohen advocated a long-range policy of eliminating prejudice through education and the combating of organized anti-Semitism by counter-propaganda. He suggested a combined approach to various governments in the hope of getting them to ban the dissemination of anti-Semitic literature through the mails.
