Dedication ceremonies of the $500,000 Beth Medrosh Hagodol synagogue were held Friday, Feb. 22, under the direction of Rabbi C. H. Kauvar, who has headed the congregation for the last 30 years.
Tableaux recounting the history of the synagogue, from the time when it opened its doors 40 years ago to the pioneers of the state until the present date, was one of the features of the dedication.
The synagogue now serves more than 1,000 families and has a membership of more than 2,000.
Dr. Lewis L. Miller was chairman of the committee in charge. Other members were Morris H. Robinson, Lou Cohan, Sam Feldman, Sam Flaks, K. Friedman, S. J. Heller, L. A. Hellerstein, A B. Hirschfield, Louis Lipson, Abe Miller, J M. Miller, H. J. Pells, Sam Reed, H. H. Robinson, C H. Rosenblum, L E Shuteran, and Philip Rossman. Mrs. Gerson L. Segal, president of the Women’s League Auxiliary of the synagogue, directed the activities in which the women participated.
Bernard M. Baruch may be designated as chairman of a commission to make a thorough study of the curative possibilities of the famous mineral springs at Saratoga, it is indicated by officials, Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt is known to be considering names of those eligible for places on the commission. Mr. Baruch may be picked as chairman, it is reported.
Mr. Baruch’s experience as chairman of the War Industries Board during the Wilson administration, and his conspicuous place in commercial, industrial and financial affairs, nationally and internationally, fit him for the place, it was declared.
