The campaign of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies to raise $2,071,000, which would wipe out its deficit, will enter its last month tomorrow, with the goal still in the distance but being steadily approached.
Closing its drive in behalf of the Federation, the Bronx junior division will hold an informal dance at Burnside Manor, 71-85 West Burnside avenue, The Bronx, Wednesday evening. For the last month the division has been soliciting contributions of one dollar each from residents and business men of the borough toward the $250,000 quota assigned the Bronx.
A group of representative members of the paints, oils, varnishes and related trades, under the leadership of M. J. Merkin, are in the midst of an ambitious effort to aid the emergency appeal following a dinner meeting at the Metropolis Club. This division is out to raise $35,000 before December 31.
A new contingent of eleven “100 per cent” clothing and woolen firms, whose employes have unanimously pledged contributions, was announced by L. M. Cohen, head of the employes’ committee of the men’s clothing, woolens and allied industries division.
“Added to the forty-five firms we already have,” he said, “this puts our industry well along the way.”
