The number of applications for gun permits has increased by 400 to 500 percent since the terrorist carnage March II, the Interior Ministry reported. Most of the applications are for pistols and the tendency by the ministry is to approve most of the applications. The number of applications in Tel Aviv rose from an average of 50 to 300 and in Haifa it rose from 15 to 200. In addition, there has also been a growing demand for the import of arms for private use. The Interior Ministry recently approved the import of some 1800 guns, but it is already clear that this quantity will not meet the growing demand.
