The prosecuting attorney demanded guilty verdicts on all counts today against the six key defendants in the Syrian spy ring trial. “They have sold their souls to Satan,” declared Haifa District Attorney Itzhak Grabli, summing up the State’s case before a three judge panel in a Haifa district court.
He said that Daoud Osman Turki, the alleged leader of the Syrian-sponsored Arab-Jewish spy ring must be found guilty on all nine counts against him. He also singled out Ehud Adiv, the kibbutz-born paratroop veteran who allegedly served as No. 2 man in the ring and headed its Jewish section.
Noting that Adiv had confessed to most of the charges against him, including turning over military intelligence to enemy agents, meeting enemy agents abroad and undergoing training in arms and explosives in Syria, Grabli said his aim was to undermine the security of the State to pave the way for a revolutionary overthrow of the Israeli government. He demanded that Adiv be found guilty on all ten counts against him.
The defense will conduct its case next week, starting Sunday. A separate trial for the remaining defendants in the spy case is not expected to begin until the present trial ends.
