Julius Miller, Borough President of Manhattan, was nominated for Justice of the Supreme Court by Tammany Hall at the First Judicial District convention of the Democratic organization held on Thursday night. Mr. Miller has been nominated to succeed Justice Joseph F. Crater, who disappeared several weeks ago. Justice Bernard L. Shientag was among the four Supreme Court justices now sitting on the bench who were nominated for another term.
Mr. Miller, who is 50 years old, was admitted to the bar at the age of 21 and started his political career with a term in the State Senate. He has served as Borough President of Manhattan for the past nine years. As Borough President he has carried out many public improvements, such as the widening of Park Avenue and Allen Street and the building of the viaducts around Grand Central and Riverside Drive. He is a member of the Congregation Kehillath Jeshurun of Manhattan.
