Reports current in New York that the World Zionist Executive body refused an invitation to confer with officials of the Colonial Office on the proposed Palestine legislative council are baseless in fact, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today from an unusually reliable source.
According to the published reports, the Zionist Executive received an invitation from the Colonial Office to discuss a plan for increasing the number of Jewish members on the legislative council. The Zionist body immediately refused, reports declared, making it clear that Jews will not participate even if they are given more seats than originally planned.
Palestine Jewish organizations have indicated that they are firmly opposed to the creation of a legislative council on the ground that it is a clear violation of the spirit and letter of the Palestine Mandate. Arab and British members of the council, it was pointed out, will have a majority of votes, and will thus control the council.
