Desecrating Religious Property Made Felony Under Bill Passed by New York Senate

The Senate today unanimously passed a bill by Sen. Heller of Brooklyn making it a felony to desecrate religious property.

The Heller bill, which may be acted upon by the Assembly next Monday, specifies that any one who defiles, defaces, or otherwise injures religious vestments, any building or structure used as a place of religious worship, or any religious institution or cemetery would be guilty of a felony and subject to imprisonment up to three years.
