The destiny of the Middle East depends on the ability of the citizens of Israel to make their country economically sound. Any sacrifice on the part of the democratic nations to ensure this end is worthwhile, said Vice-President Alben W. Barkley last night, addressing the opening dinner of the local Histadrut campaign.
“Israel is not finencially strong,” he declared, “she cannot do what she needs by herself. She needs all the help that can be given to her. If we are to make Israel a land of milk and honey of the Bible we must help her now.” The Vice-President spoke glowingly about the work of the Jewish pioncers through the Histadrut. More than $100,000 was collected at the dinner.
