The Allied Jewish Campaign for 1965 concluded here officially last night with a “victory dinner” at which it was announced that the year’s total contributions will reach $5, 158, 800 by the time the remaining unsolicited givers are reached.
The announcement was made by William Avrunin, Jewish Welfare Federation director, and by the campaign co-chairmen Sol Eisenberg and Irwin Green. Max M. Fisher, national UJA chairman, declared that Detroit is the top-ranking community in the country this year in point of increases secured for UJA over last year, and he commended the campaign leaders for their devotion to what he termed was “a great campaign.”
Mr. Avrunin also reported that while the campaign total will be the highest since 1959, the number of contributors will reach 25, 000–the highest since 1957. Morris Abram, president of the American Jewish Committee, guest speaker, reviewed world conditions, told of rising anti-Semitic trends in Latin America but a decline in prejudice elsewhere.
