The Allied Jewish Campaign came to a close here with a total of $219,148 subscribed towards the entire quota of $270,000.
Of this sum, $165,000 was raised for the maintenance funds of twenty-nine local, national and international agencies, including German-Jewish relief and Palestine’s reconstruction. Kurt Peiser, executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation, announces that although the maintenance funds fell $5,000 short of the goal, there will be no cuts in allowances to the agencies included in the drive.
The balance of $54,000 will be used for the building fund for the Jewish Old Folks Home, which was included in the drive for a quota of $100,000. Negotiations are under way to have the Jewish Hospital Association turn over the $42,000 in its treasury towards the Old Folks Home funds with the understanding that it should be used to care for the aged, infirm and chronic ill in the new home.
Fred M. Butzel headed the campaign as general chairman; Henry Wineman, chairman of pre-campaign solicitations and Clarence H. Enggass, chairman of general solicitations.
