At a conference here at Jericho Temple, a group of individuals interested in coordinating the efforts of local Jewish organizations resolved to create a Jewish Council of Greater Detroit, and a provisional committee was formed for this purpose.
Maxwell L. Black, assistant attorney general of Michigan, was elected temporary chairman. Among the 20 men active in many Jewish organizations who participated in this conference were the following:
Dr. S. Kleiman, Hyman Altman, director of the local Jewish hour; Joseph Berstein, manager of the Detroit office of the Forward; Rabbi J S. Sperka, H. Solomon, Henry Goldberg and others.
It was explained following the meeting that those who participated in the discussions were men active in important organizations. All expressed a determination that the disorganized state of Jewish communai life in Detroit was lamentable and that a dire need existed for the coordination of the various existing forces.
