Backed by the unanimous support of the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization, Representative Samuel Dickstein, chairman of the committee, stated today he would press for early consideration by the House the resolution introduced by him calling for an investigation of Nazi activities in the United States.

This statement was made following an executive session of his committee. The committee unanimously voted to accept the report of the emergency sub-committe recommending an investigation into the extent and character of aliens en gaged in Nazi propaganda in this country.

The sub-committee made this recommendation on the basis of evidence obtained in an investigation it conducted during the last few months. The investigation recommended will also delve into the source of funds provided to conduct propaganda activities in the United States.

Congressman Dickstein already has introduced a resolution calling for an investigation and not more than $25,000 to finance it.

This report is expected to be completed early next week. The committee has also unanimously authorized the chairman to introduce the proper legislative measures in the House of Representatives and “to do all that was necessary to secure the adoption of such a measure for the appointment of a special committee by the House. This committee should be properly authorized to conduct a thorough and formal investigation into the extent, character and objects of Nazi propaganda in the United States and also the diffusion within the United States of all subversive propaganda instigated by foreign countries attacking the principles of the democratic form of government as guaranteed by our Constitution.”

The special committee will also be authorized to investigate “all organizations in the United States cooperating in this nefarious alien propaganda and all other questions which relate in any way to the introduction and spreading of this wholly un-American idea of foreign ideals of government leading to a dictatorship and destructive to” American constitutional principles.
