Congressman Samuel Dickstein, vice-chairman of the Congressional Committee Investigating Nazi and Other Un-American Activities, said yesterday he is leaving the latter part of the month for California, where open hearings will be held August 11.
Dickstein stated that preliminary investigations of California Nazis and other subversive groups have not been concluded yet, but prophesied that the committee’s quest for un-American activities would prove as fruitful in the West as it was in the East.
Following the California hearings the activities of Nazi and the more subversive of the Midwest reactionary groups will be investigated in Chicago. Aside from these no other hearing is scheduled to be held in public.
It is learned that prior to the committee’s departure for the West, private hearings will continue to be held in Newark and New York.
A number of Federal and Congressional investigators are understood to be conducting private hearings and investigations throughout the country.
Whether or not Ivy Lee, public relations counsel for Rockefeller, the Pennsylvania Railroad, and other big interests, will be brought back to the United States to further testify before the Congressional committee, could not be determined yesterday.
