Armed with a practically-assured $50,000 House appropriation, Chairman Martin Dies of the Committee Investigating Un-American Activities is engaged in setting up regional offices for his probe throughout the country.
The House Accounts Committee approved the $50,000 item last week and House leaders are certain the appropriation will be approved by that body. The regional offices will launch an intensive investigation drive as soon as they are set up and many hearings are likely to be held at key points between now and the end of the year. Only the southwestern regional office at Orange, Texas, Dies home town, has been definitely selected.
With the $50,000 appropriation the Dies Committee will have received a total of $250,000 dollars of House funds since it was established over two years ago. The committee will expire at the end of this year unless continued by the 77th Congress.
