Dr. Nahum Goldmann declared here last night that Israel faces more difficult tasks in the second decade than in its first ten years. He spoke before an overflow audience of 5, 000 persons at the sixth national conference of the French WIZO, International Women Zionist Organization. Dr. Goldmann urged ever greater support for Israel for four reasons.
First, he said, Israel is now too often taken for granted so that there is less enthusiasm for it now than there was in the first decade. The second reason was, that the Arab states refuse to make peace with Israel and there will not be peace until the major world blocs come to terms. The third reason, he said, was that Israel must deal with social difficulties and, fourth, Israel’s income from West German reparations will cease during the second decade and American aid has been diminishing. The fourth reason made increased Jewish aid imperative, he stressed.
