Simcha Dinitz, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, was reported today to have said that the United States commitment of political support for Israel in any retaliation it may undertake against Arab terrorism was a positive indication of the “new era” of harmony and understanding between the U.S. and Israel emerging from the lengthy negotiations with Syria.
Dinitz said the U.S. Interpretation of the Syrian-Israeli disengagement accord was that terrorists may not be sent across borders and that the U.S. would not consider any reprisal a violation of the disengagement accord. Dinitz reportedly said this was the strongest American stand yet made against Arab terrorism. He made those comments at a briefing to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
