More than 1,200 persons prominent in labor groups and in the Zionist movement tonight attended a “Founders’ Dinner” at the hotel Astor, climaxing a $100,000 campaign for the establishment of a Leon Blum colony on Jewish National Fund land in Palestine.
The dinner was given in honor of Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt and French ambassador Count Rene de Sait-Quentin, who were the principal speakers. The colony, the site for which has been earmarked by the J.N.F. on its land holdings in Galilee, will be named “Leon Blum Colony” in appreciation of the former French premier’s support of Zionism.
Mr. Blum spoke by radio from Paris. Over the short-wave broadcast were also to come addresses by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, and col. Leopold S. army, former British Colonial secretary. Other speakers were Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the J.N.F., Max Zaritsky, chairman of the sponsors committee, and William Green, chairman of the Honorary Committee of Patrons.
