Displaced Jews throughout the American zone of Germany voted today in elections for delegates to the zone-wide conference next month, which will elect a new Central Committee of the Liberated Jews in Germany. Six to nine delegates will be elected by every Jewish DP camps and most Jewish commities.
The inspector-general named by Army headquarters at Frankfurt to probe the charges and counter-charges around the arrest and alleged mistreatment of eight displaced Jews from the Landsberg camp opened his investigation yesterday at Landsberg. During the probe, which was requested by Rabbi Philip Bernstein, adviser on Jewish affairs to the U.S. armed forces in Europe, the DP’s involved, as well as the UNRRA officials who were charged by the American constabulary with protecting them, will be questioned.
