Trustees of the Union High School district in the town of Tulare, Cal., about 100 miles north of here, have approved the distribution of Gideon Bibles in public school assemblies twice each year, in spite of objections which had been raised by the School Council, it was reported here today.
The American Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith and the American Civil Liberties Union are investigating the matter. Last year the Board of Trustees of Turlock, Cal., southeast of San Francisco, discontinued similar distribution of Gideon Bibles in that town’s schools after the American Jewish Congress protested to the California Attorney General.
